Does it hurt to get an anti-tragus piercing?

Kenneth Abad, a professional tattoo artist and body piercer from 55 Tinta, rates the anti-tragus pain factor between four and six on a scale of one to 10. But of course, "pain is subjective," he pointed out. Everyone's pain tolerance is different.

How long does it take for an anti-tragus piercing to heal?

Generally, the body piercer said it takes around "two to three months" for an anti-tragus piercing to heal. It will also depend on how you take care of your fresh piercing.

How do I take care of my anti-tragus piercing?

  • Avoid wearing earphones or headphones while your piercing is still fresh. When you touch or twist your piercing, you're making the dry wound raw again, which can prolong the healing process.
  • Try to sleep on your back to avoid putting pressure on your ear.
  • Spray and clean your anti-tragus piercing with a saline solution—not rubbing alcohol—twice a day, every dayKenneth explained that alcohol tends to be too drying, which can do more harm than good.
  • Make sure to wash your hands before cleaning your piercing.
  • As much as possible, keep your hair away from your face while your piercing is healing. (READ MORE: How To Make Sure Your Ear Piercings Don't Close Or Get Infected)
