This year, we don’t have to use a holiday cocktail party or a New Year’s Eve soirée as an excuse to flaunt our favorite metallic clothes and accessories. Why? Well, shades of glimmering gold and sparkling silver have already begun to make their mark. “It feels like the direction we are headed in this season is to be a bit bolder,” says Glamhive stylist and costume designer Franzy Staedter. “When we wear metallics, we introduce texture and shine to an outfit which supports the generally darker and subdued fall and winter color palette.”
The ubiquity of metallics comes as no surprise, of course. Take a quick look back to several of the Fall 2023 shows, and you’ll notice trails of evidence across a number of runways: a bronze maxi dress by Collina Strada, a silver floor-length skirt by LaQuan Smith, a gold retro jumpsuit by Michael Kors—to name a few.
If you’re looking to experiment with this sumptuous trend, you can take notes from the designers listed above and slip into something that will undoubtedly command attention. However, if you’d prefer to ease your way into the waters of metallics instead of taking a full-on plunge, focus your attention on accessorizing. “Fun metallic accessories can totally serve you as statement pieces to add a little bit of fashion drama to your outfit,” Staedter tells Bazaar. She also notes that metallic accessories are inherently versatile, as they can elevate both casual and formal outfits.
