Romanesque
The Romanesque time period begins in the 8th century (800 A.D) all the way to 11th century(1000), which was the years where Roman art became the center piece as they had a very unique style of buildings, art and sculpture in Christianity's Earlier years. The Romanesque time was inspired by the work of the first roman emperor, Constantine, as he discovered Byzantium Eastern Empire. However they are not same as Romanesque art was a reminiscent of roman art. It also was the start of the first Crusades, as they went to retrieve the Holy Land from the Islamic community, religion.
Features of Romanesque art
Romanesque art was very similar to art of the Byzantine period, but they do have some differences to separate the two periods. Romanesque art can be identified by the size, as they created the art to a larger scale of the original. It was purely based on bringing people closer to god and spreading religion throughout Rome. It was made from all different types of media such as stainless glass, sculptures, architecture and even metals. The main architecture of the Romanesque time period was buildings like monasteries, churches and cathedrals. There were also specific symbols and materials used in the art they used to display certain meanings. The artist of most of the Romanesque art were unknown because they would usually move on after they finished it.
History of Romanesque time period
During this time period of Romanesque religion became a popular trend amongst the Europeans, the saints and martyrs were tourist destinations to some individuals. This was due to the beliefs that the holy relics could perform miracles of some kind. The more popular places were even more crowded, as they had to enlarge the size of some buildings due to the amount of visitors. Since the current building could hold the crowds of people they started to build larger church's in the shape of a cross. The large crowds of people was due to the increase of famous monasteries and church's, along with the pilgrimages. This was all during the crusades, as they were by the pope to go and retrieve the Holy Land also known as Jerusalem from the Islamic religion, which caused a major rivalry between the two religion. This fight is still going on today.
The impact on how Jesus was portrayed
Artist were inspired by what was happening around them, especially during this time with the argument over who should own the Holy Land, Jerusalem. They portrayed Jesus as a judge, because he and God have the power to judge an individual. By the cause of the crusades and Islamic battle it caused the artist to portray Jesus as the one will put an end to the argument of territory of Jerusalem.

He eyes larger than normal eyes and is holding a book in his left hand, as his age is considerable old because the beard. The four angels are the four gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. This artwork of Jesus shows how the things that have occurred during the Romanesque time period is reflected in the art. Because Jesus is seen as a judge in this image which was how Jesus was portrayed in this time period.
