Go Check Out This Crazy Accurate 1:40-Scale Model of Boston

If there’s ever a time to live out your kaiju fantasies, now’s your chance.

The Boston Planning and Development Agency is opening its model room to the public starting Tuesday, and will run weekly tours. Located inside the BPDA’s offices on the ninth floor of City Hall, the model room features a meticulously crafted 1:40-scale replica of downtown Boston, as well as portions of Beacon Hill, the North End, Charlestown, Back Bay, and the South Boston waterfront.

Highlights include a miniature City Hall, Customs House, and Boston Common rife with carefully arrayed model trees.

Though the basswood model was first constructed in the 80s, the BPDA regularly updates it with new structures as they’re erected. With the development boom sprouting cranes across the city, BPDA staff has been fast at work keeping the model current.

Tours of the model room will run Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon, and will run for half an hour. Reservations can be made here.
