This is a terrific Vintage Mola. These Folk Art Textiles are from South American, particularly Panama. These textiles form part of the traditional clothing embellishment to women's clothing of the indigenous Guna people from Panamá and Colombia. This is an excellent example, with incredibly fine details.
***Listing is for 1 (one) Mola is the first photo ONLY. At the time of listing I have about 2 dozen to choose from, some are shown in the photos, or can be viewed in my "Textile Gallery" section.
Beautifully sewn / constructed using multiple layers of fabric (cotton), adding, cutting and sewing the many layers results in a "reverse applique" technique, with very different themes and patterns. In Dulegaya, the Guna's native language, "mola" means "shirt" or "clothing".
Piece is in excellent vintage condition, ***with only very subtle signs of age and wear.
***Please ZOOM the photos to appreciate all the details, as well as to best understand overall condition.
Perfect to Frame as Wall Décor, or to incorporate into a garment. ***Be very mindful that this is an older piece, so lots of cleaning or washing will INDEED break down the textile.
Mola in First Photo measures 13.5" x 17"
