Shamans in the tribes of the Pacific Northwest used masks in ceremonies.

This mask represents the spirit of a human ancestor.

It is 7" x 9"; the hair is approximately 14" long.

Made of albacia wood and horsehair.

The original is at the San Diego, California, Museum of Man (Archaeology, Ethnology & Anthropology.) It was made by a member of the Kwakiutl tribe, date unknown.

This is a replica of a museum piece. All replicas are carved and painted by hand, therefore finishes and dimensions may vary. Some of the colors may show discoloration similar to aging and the interaction of wood, wax, and paint over time.

This mask was not produced by a tribal member.
