The Famous Quilts of Gee's Bend Available Online for the First Time Ever Thanks to Etsy

You can now shop one-of-a-kind works of art from the Gee’s Bend quilters on Etsy.com.

In honor of Black History Month, Etsy has teamed up with Nest and Souls Grown Deep to welcome the famous quilters of Gee's Bend, Alabama, to the Etsy marketplace.

The 700 or so residents of Gee's Bend—now named Boykin—are mostly descendants of slaves. For generations, the women of the rural community surrounded on three sides by the Alabama River, have been making some of the finest quilts in the country. Known worldwide as The Gee's Bend Quilters, their colorful, abstract, and highly coveted works of art have been reproduced on official US postage stamps and featured in over 20 museums.

And now, for the first time ever, the quilts are available for purchase online.

Starting today, customers can shop one-of-a-kind works of art—ranging from large-scale quilts to face masks—from the Gee's Bend quilters on Etsy.com. Prices range from $27 through $5,500 per piece.

Each Gee's Bend quilter gets her own individual Etsy shop, with an official Gee's Bend Quilts shop icon, and will be featured on Etsy's marketing channels.

"While the quilters are globally recognized, their fame has not previously translated into economic advancement, due to their remote location, and access limitations," an Etsy blog post explains. "The opportunity with Etsy presents the women of Gee's Bend with the chance to realize the economic potential they deserve."

Happy shopping, y'all!
